Acconto help
Acconto lets your customers pay a deposit when they order, keeps the order on hold while you make it, and collects the rest before it ships. This page covers setup, every setting, the questions merchants ask most, and what to do when something looks wrong.
Getting started
- Choose a plan. Starter or Pro, each with a 14-day free trial. Shopify bills it on your Shopify invoice.
- Create a deposit plan (Acconto → Deposit plans → Create deposit plan): the deposit (a percentage or a fixed amount), when the rest is due, and which products, variants or collections it applies to.
- Add the deposit option to your product page: on Acconto's home page, click Open theme editor. It opens on a product in your first deposit plan and adds the "Deposit options" block at the end of the product details (in most themes, below the Buy buttons). Drag the block above the Buy buttons so shoppers choose before they buy, then click Save. The block shows on every product in a deposit plan.
- (Optional) Show what's due today in the cart: on the home page, click Open app embeds, switch on Deposit due today, then Save.
- Place a test order with a deposit to see the whole flow.
Deposits need Shopify Payments or PayPal as your payment provider. Express wallets such as Shop Pay don't support deposits; customers paying a deposit use the regular checkout. Manual payment methods (cash on delivery, bank deposit, money order) can't take a deposit: Shopify hides them at checkout whenever a deposit item is in the cart, and shows them again for carts without one.
From a product's page in Shopify
You can also manage deposits without leaving a product: open the product (or one of its variants) in Shopify, find the Purchase options card, and choose Acconto. There you can tick or untick your deposit plans for that product or variant, create a new plan just for it, or edit a plan. The edit form lists every product on the plan: you can apply your changes to all of them, or choose Only this product to move it to a new plan of its own while the others keep their terms. Orders already placed keep the terms they were bought with. Plans that cover all products, or a collection the product is in, are changed in Acconto itself.
How a deposit order works
- The customer chooses Pay a deposit today on the product page and pays the deposit at checkout. Shopify saves their card for the balance.
- The order arrives on hold (Shopify's "delivery date unknown").
- Balance due when it ships: when the item is ready, release the hold in the order. Acconto puts it on an "awaiting payment" hold, charges the balance to the saved card, and releases it once paid. Then ship. Shopify asks "Release hold? This hold was placed by an app, and releasing it may breach your agreement": click Release. Releasing Acconto's hold is exactly how you tell it the item is ready.
- Balance due on a date, or a number of days after the order: the customer gets a reminder a few days before, and the balance is charged on the date. If you release the hold early, the order stays held until the balance is paid on its date; send the payment link from Deposit orders to collect sooner.
- If a card fails, the customer gets an email with a payment link, and Acconto retries after 1, 3 and 7 days (you can change this in Settings). The order stays on hold, so it can't ship unpaid.
- All customer emails are sent by Shopify from your store, with your store's name and branding.
Staff
Acconto works with your store's own connection to Shopify, so every staff member you allow to use it (Settings > Users, then tick Acconto under Apps) sees and can do everything in Acconto that you can. Staff without that tick don't see the app. Changing Acconto's plan also needs the "Approve app charges" permission.
Settings
- Reminder days: how many days before a dated balance the customer gets a reminder.
- Retry days: when to try a declined card again, for example 1,3,7. After the last retry the customer gets a final payment link.
- Collect the balance before shipping: on by default. Turn it off to charge only when you fulfil.
- Production stages (Pro): the updates you can send customers, such as "In production" or "Ready to ship". Pick one for an order on the Deposit orders page: Acconto saves it on the order and copies the update for you to paste into an email to the customer.
Questions merchants ask
Does the deposit include shipping and tax? No. Shopify charges the deposit on the product price. Shipping, tax and any discount go into the balance.
Can the customer pay the balance early or use a different card? Yes. Every reminder email and the customer's order page have a Pay now button that takes any card. The order page's payment schedule needs Shopify's new customer accounts (Settings > Customer accounts); with classic customer accounts it doesn't appear, and customers pay early from the reminder email instead.
What if I need to refund or cancel? Cancel or refund the order in Shopify as usual. Acconto sees it and stops collecting the balance.
Can customers still pay in full? Yes, unless the plan is set to require a deposit. Note that quick-add buttons on collection pages skip the product page and add the item paid in full.
Which themes work? Any Online Store 2.0 theme, including Shopify's free themes. Older (vintage) themes and page builders such as PageFly or GemPages are not supported.
Does it work with Shopify POS? No. Deposits are an online store feature.
Which languages? The customer-facing text (product page, cart, emails, order page) is in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch. Right-to-left languages are not supported yet. The admin is in English.
What happens when I uninstall? Your plan and your access end at once and Shopify stops billing for Acconto; fees already billed are refunded only as our Terms (section 4) say. Your deposit plans come off your products and the theme blocks disappear. Orders already placed keep their deposits; collect any remaining balances in Shopify ("Collect payment" on the order). If you want our records, export them first (Deposit orders, Export CSV): the orders themselves stay in Shopify. Shopify asks us to delete your store's data 48 hours later, and we do, within 30 days.
Staff accounts: anyone who can open apps in your Shopify admin can use Acconto and see deposit orders.
Accessibility
The product-page options are ordinary radio buttons with labels, work with the keyboard (Tab, then the arrow keys), keep a visible focus outline, and announce changes to screen readers; the cart line is announced when the cart changes. They follow your theme's fonts and colours; the focus outline uses your theme's text colour, so it stays visible whatever accent colour you choose (the accent only colours the selected option's border, and the radio dot shows the choice too). The admin uses Shopify's own components. Automated checks (axe) report no issues on the storefront parts. On the admin pages they report one finding, inside Shopify's own table component on Deposit plans, Deposit orders and Custom quotes ("aria-required-children"): the table markup comes from Shopify and apps can't change it. Every remove button in the plan editor names what it removes. If something doesn't work for you or your customers with assistive technology, email us: we treat it as a bug. We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA on the storefront parts, the admin pages and this website (last checked 16 October 2026 with axe and by keyboard). Known limits: right-to-left languages are not supported, and the admin has not been tested with a screen reader.
When something looks wrong
- Open Deposit orders: each order shows its status and, if something failed, the reason.
- Click Refresh on the order to re-read it from Shopify.
- Still stuck? Copy the summary on Acconto's Help page and email it to us.
Support
- Email: support@nolarine.com. We reply within two business days, usually sooner.
- What we cover: Acconto itself. We can't change your theme's code, other apps, or custom code, but we'll tell you if one of them is the cause.
- Security issues: email support@nolarine.com with "Security" in the subject. We acknowledge within two business days and don't publish details until a fix is out.
- If we need to look at your store: we ask first, and only through a Shopify collaborator request with the fewest permissions that will do (usually Apps and Orders). Remove our access once it's solved.
- Feature ideas: email us; every request is logged and read.
- What changed in each release: see the changelog.
